Get to know Sortday
What is Sortday?
Sortday is a to-do and calendar app that brings time management methods and an AI action coach together to help you turn ideas into plans and plans into action.
Use it to manage tasks and time for work, study, and everyday life. You can also plan with the coach, weigh trade-offs, and get suggestions. You decide whether to use the suggestions and how to plan and act.
What makes Sortday useful?
To-dos, the calendar, notes, and organization views work together. Lists and boards help you see your work and progress. The calendar helps you review schedules and conflicts. Task bodies and notes hold ideas and materials. Notes can also be saved on their own; they do not all need to become to-dos.
The AI action coach applies time management methods to practical guidance. From prioritizing and breaking down tasks to scheduling, reviewing, and adjusting, the coach considers your goals and situation and offers suggestions and feedback from another perspective. You do not need to study a theory first; you can use these methods as you plan and act. The goal is to support real action, not to fill your calendar or get more tasks done.
Can I use Sortday without AI?
Yes. To-dos, Calendar, notes, and organization views work on their own. You do not need to configure a model or start a conversation. Record tasks, schedule time, and organize materials directly, then use the AI action coach if you want.
Get started
Where should I start?
Start by recording what you need to do. Put anything without a clear home in the Inbox. Create lists when you need to organize, and add items to Calendar when you need to schedule them. You do not need to build a complete system first.
What is the difference between a task and a note?
A task records something to complete, so you can track progress and mark it done. A note saves ideas and materials and does not need to be checked off. You can save a thought on its own or put related materials in a task body.
Manage tasks and lists
When should I use a list, a section, or a subtask?
A list can collect work for a project or area. Sections distinguish stages within a list. Subtasks break work into specific steps. Combine them as needed; you do not have to use every level.
What is the difference between completing, canceling, and deleting?
Complete means the work is done. Cancel means you will not continue; the content is kept and removed from to-dos and reminders. Delete moves the content to Trash, where you can restore it during the retention period.
Plan your time
What is the difference between a scheduled time and a due date?
A scheduled time is when you plan to work on something. A due date is the latest time it needs to be finished. They are recorded separately, so you do not need to block time on Calendar just to remember a deadline.
How do I view and adjust Calendar?
Calendar has month, week, and day views. Review existing plans, click or drag to schedule an item, and drag items to adjust their dates and times.
AI action coach
What can I discuss with the AI action coach?
If you are unsure what to do first, think through priorities and specific steps together. If you already have a plan, discuss whether it is reasonable and whether it misses any constraints. If things change while you work, or after completing a stretch of work, bring your actual progress and related notes into the conversation to discuss how to adjust what comes next.
The coach makes suggestions based on the information available; it does not know your whole situation. You can add context, change a suggestion, or decline it. Reducing scope, postponing something, or making room to rest may also be a reasonable choice.
How do I start using the AI action coach?
First, set up your own model connection in Settings, then start a conversation. Begin with something you are thinking about, a plan you already have, or your recent progress. You do not need to organize all your information first.
Different providers and models have different capabilities, costs, and terms of use. The platform's AI service is not currently available, so you need to use your own model connection.
Can I use Sortday with other AI agents?
Yes. The AI action coach focuses on your tasks and plans to help you think, make decisions, and adjust your actions. When you need to continue with specific work, bring related items into a connected Claude, Codex, or ChatGPT.
Whether a tool can research information, draft text, or organize content depends on its capabilities, permissions, and operating conditions. Opening a tool does not mean the work is finished. Review and decide whether to use any generated content.
Import, sync, and backup
Can I import from Todoist, TickTick, or Markdown?
Yes. Choose a source in Import & backup settings. Todoist supports CSV backups. TickTick supports CSV and ZIP files with attachments created by a community export tool. Obsidian and Markdown support importing notes from a folder and readable image attachments.
Review the content preview, duplicate warnings, and missing-item notices before confirming. Whether attachments can be imported completely depends on whether the exported files include them.
How do I back up and restore data?
Export a Sortday backup in Import & backup settings to save items, lists, folders, and attachments. To restore, select a Sortday backup file to merge its content into your current data. If a backup and your current data contain the same item, the backup version replaces it and may overwrite changes made after the backup. Other content is not deleted.
When exporting, check for missing attachments or failed downloads. Large backups may be split across multiple files. Sync updates current content across devices; a backup saves a separate copy, which is recommended before bulk changes or imports.
What should I do first if sync fails?
Check the status and error in Sync & storage settings, then retry as prompted. If the problem continues, describe what happened through in-app feedback or by email.
Account & notifications
Why did I not receive a reminder?
First, check that a reminder is set for the task. Then check whether the device allows Sortday notifications and whether system restrictions such as Do Not Disturb are enabled. Reminder methods and background conditions vary by platform, and not every platform supports background push notifications. If you still do not receive the reminder, send us the device, system, and time it happened.
Where can I manage my account?
Manage your nickname, avatar, password, and email in Account settings. You can also delete your account. Follow the on-screen instructions for password recovery and email verification.
